Chinois Ibiza is a boutique nightclub located in the exclusive Marina Botafoch area of Ibiza, offering a refined, immersive alternative to the island’s large-scale superclubs. Opened in 2022 following the transformation of the former HEART Ibiza venue, Chinois has quickly established itself as one of the island’s most elegant and culturally distinctive nightlife destinations.
Developed by Island Hospitality, the group behind several high-end venues and the renowned Park Chinois in London, the club draws heavily on the glamour and decadence of 1930s Shanghai nightlife. This influence is evident throughout its design: rich textures, golden accents, velvet furnishings and Art Deco-inspired details create a cinematic, opulent environment that blends Eastern and Western aesthetics into a single, cohesive concept. If im really honest with you I don’t like venues like this, I feel out of place, everyone there looks gorgeous and are not really there for the musical experience, they are normally there for the Instagram experience. Give me a really good sound system, visuals and a grubby dance floor and im happy. Do you really need art deco inspired details, Taps in the toilet that look like duck heads, velvet furnishings and an opulent environment. I want to get my head down and have a dance on a sticky dance floor. But I guess it takes all sorts!
Positioned beneath the Ibiza Gran Hotel in the marina, Chinois is intentionally intimate, with a capacity of around 1,000 guests. Unlike Ibiza’s mega-clubs, its single-room layout ensures that every guest remains closely connected to the music and energy of the dancefloor. This focus on proximity and atmosphere allows for a more personal and immersive clubbing experience, where the connection between artist and audience takes centre stage. Although there if a rooftop terrace where you can get a cocktail, which every time I went there was packed!
At its core, Chinois is built around a “dancefloor-first” philosophy. The club emphasises high-quality sound, carefully curated line-ups, and a musical journey rather than spectacle or volume. Its programming spans house, melodic techno and underground electronic music, attracting both internationally recognised DJs and emerging talent, while also hosting concept-driven residencies that evolve over the season.
The venue’s production combines cutting-edge technology with understated elegance. A 360-degree projection system, immersive lighting and a finely tuned sound system create a fully enveloping sensory experience, enhancing rather than overpowering the music. This balance allows Chinois to deliver a high-impact environment without losing its intimate and sophisticated identity.
Beyond its aesthetic and technical appeal, Chinois positions itself as more than just a nightclub. It promotes a sense of community, I don’t agree that Chinois is all about inclusivity and cultural connection, drawing a diverse international crowd united by a shared passion for music and nightlife. I found it pretty snooty just the same as other venues that are often associated with Ibiza’s VIP culture, the club aims to recreate the authentic spirit of the island — where the dancefloor is the focal point and the experience is driven by connection rather than status.
In a landscape dominated by ever-bigger venues and commercialised experiences, Chinois Ibiza stands out as a modern “boutique” club— one that prioritises quality over scale, atmosphere over spectacle, and authenticity over hype. Its blend of luxury design, intimate energy and forward-thinking music programming has positioned it as a key player in the evolution of Ibiza nightlife.
Ive just got back from Defected at Chinois, now I love Defected, but all the chat forums are saying that this venue isn’t right for an event like that, not the right crowd, too cramped and im afraid to say I totally agree. I got to the venue early and its in a really posh part of Ibiza, I sat on a bench by the club and had a beer, I found myself surrounded by beautiful people carrying Gucci shopping bags and millions of pounds worth of cars ferrying these beautiful people around. I was in shorts and a t-shirt and felt very out of place.
Please Defected don’t stay here next year and please go to somewhere like Eden again!
